Meet SCOTT RAINEY
Scott is a Chartered Financial Analyst, which is a rare and prestigious professional Funds Management designation. Less than 500 people hold the designation here in NZ and very few are currently practicing as Financial Advisers.
He is also a Certified Financial Planner and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary.
In addition to advising private clients Scott also specialises in providing investment advisory and consultancy services to Institutions, not-for-profit organisations, and Trusts.
WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
I graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2001 with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics. After joining the wealth management industry, in 2005 I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies – Personal Financial Planning through Massey University. My career in financial markets now spans over 16 years.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I joined this industry almost by accident straight out of university. Having studied economics and law I fell into this area chiefly because I like numbers. Then I figured out that I actually like people!
The thing that this job really gives me is the opportunity to meet lots of interesting people and help them, and that’s really rewarding.
WHAT QUALITIES MAKE YOU WELL SUITED TO THIS POSITION?
As a CFA charterholder, I have particular expertise in the review, analysis, and drafting of SIPOs, Investment Policy Statements (IPSs), portfolio reports, portfolio construction, portfolio performance attribution, and security analysis. This makes me ideally suited to reporting to Boards, Committees, and Trustees.
I also ensure investment funds are managed consistently with the needs, required rate of return, and objectives of the relevant organisation.
