Meet STEVE MANDER
Steve is a member of the internationally recognised Society of Taxation and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a Chartered Member of the NZ Institute of Directors (CMInstD).
He has a particular interest and expertise in negotiating the complex issues faced by those with US citizenship living in New Zealand. If you would like to know more about this please contact Steve or visit US Immigrants for more information.
WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
I have a background in the US, Europe and New Zealand working for some of NZ’s most highly respected and successful international companies. Fairly late in my career I formed a company called Mander and Co which did wide-ranging strategic consultancy both here and in Australia. It was through one of my overseas clients that I got drawn into private wealth management for the first time. From here my consultancy practice quite quickly moved over to become a full time private wealth practice.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I really enjoy working with clients to help them integrate their business and personal financial lives, particularly those with more complex situations. They could be business owners who are contemplating selling their business; trustees looking for support around their risks/obligations as professional trustees, a woman alone going through a relationship property dispute, US citizens dealing with complex cross jurisdictional issues or just ordinary New Zealanders looking for comprehensive financial and investment advice.
It’s very satisfying to see the sense of relief and peace of mind that clients experience when we eliminate the complexity in their financial lives and work with them to create a financial plan to achieve their life goals. I enjoy the teamwork of engaging with the other professionals in their lives to integrate all aspects of this financial plan.
WHAT QUALITIES MAKE YOU WELL SUITED TO THIS POSITION?
My broad background has given me the commercial judgement and personal life experiences to be able to understand the issues people face. I also have the analytical skills to comprehensively address these issues, no matter how complex they may appear.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING PART OF CAMBRIDGE PARTNERS?
We are a team of like-minded professionals who share a core set of ethics, values and investment philosophies that put our clients front and centre of everything we do.
HOW SHOULD PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THEIR MONEY?
People all have a slightly different set of beliefs and values they associate with their money. It’s not for us to dictate how they should think about it. However, we can help them understand that, with proper stewardship, it can enable them to live the life they want. Time is the non-renewable resource, not money, providing it is properly invested.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK HOURS?
Time with family and friends doing what I love – sailing, fishing, skiing, tramping & travel.
